LA RINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet caretaker congressman and Ani-Crime and terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap filed eleven bills in the House of Representatives that seek to establish eleven integrated schools.
Included in the list of existing elementary schools that will be upgraded to integrated schools are the Cagui-ing Elementary School n Atok; Palidan Elementary School in Bakun; Lengaoan elementary School in Buguias; Ballay Elementary School and Kabayan Central School in Kabayan; Tacadang Elementary School in Kibungan; Gumatdang Elementary School, Tocmo Elementary School and Virac Elementary School in Itogon; Kiwas Elementary School in Tuba and Pontino Elementary School in Tublay.
Yap, who chairs the House committee on appropriations, claimed that once that Hose Bills 688 to 6789 will be enacted into law, there will be additional funds that will be provided by the national government, through the education department, for the construction of more schoolbuidings and to increase the number of teachers in the said schools.
The lawmaker pointed out that with the establishment of integrated schools in the different parts of the province, there will be a big possibility that improved quality of education will be provided to the students from the rural areas were the same will be comparable to the quality of education in private institutions in the urban centers.
According to him, the continuous effort of the government to bring closer to the people in the rural areas the quality of education will definitely be one of the strategies that will be employed to ensure that the youth in the countryside will have access to the same because of the need to equip them with the skills and knowledge on how to improve their lives in the future.
Yp admitted that in most parts of Benguet, there are still numerous students who have to go to distant places to acquire higher level of education which is an added burden to them and their families.
Worst, the lawmaker claimed that some of them have to stop going to school because of the difficulty of walking for several hours just to attend classes in the nearest school.
He emphasized that the bills that he recently filed is geared towards addressing the concerns that was raised by the education sector in the province and that he will do his best to ensure that the proposed legislative measures will be acted upon by the concerned House committee for the same to be forwarded to the Senate to pass its counterpart bill.
Yap assured concerned stakeholders in the province that he will continue to serve the greater interest of the people in the province because he swore to be of service and that he will not hesitate to give his best just to ensure that he needs of the constituency will be given immediate attention by the concerned government agencies.
He agreed to the long standing teaching that education is still the best inheritance that parents and guardians could give to their siblings because it cannot be easily taken away from them where the youth could use the same to improve their living condition and for them to be able to move out from the shackles of poverty and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
