Firstly, great emphasis is given that the contents of this series are intended to give Biblical information and insights on some of its contents. They are not intended to scare or offend anyone. It is one’s prerogative to read and never be shoved into one’s throat.
This piece is a simple sharing of bible passages. It doesn’t endorse any specific faith, religion, denomination, system of beliefs or theology aside from those in the bible.
It is in the “exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or preference” as provided by The Philippine Constitution that this article was made.
If you find them scary, intimidating or offensive, please feel free to take them with a grain of salt and regard them like a badly written movie script.
This series would like to give proofs that there are incidents, claims, and realities mentioned in the bible that are so true, they are either supported or cannot be cleanly disputed by science, history, and logic.
It is by their presence that one cannot simply ignore this book and its contents. When taken in the right context, this book is not outdated and it contents are still applicable to this day.
Biblical reliability enhanced by immunity to changes
There’s a saying change is the only permanent thing in life. While this applies to many situations, it is not to several biblical claims.
When the bible speaks of general knowledge during its time, the truth of the claims it laid out then are immune to changes bound to happen. This immunity to change of biblical claims makes them still factual, both during the time it was written and today.
Here are some facts from bible, when taken in the right context, that stood some 2,000 years despite changes that happened during the duration:
The earth is the home of humans and the heavens declare the glory of God
15May you be blessed by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. 16The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the children of men. Psalm 115:15-16, New King James Version
18Then some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him; and they asked Him, saying: 19“Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies, and leaves his wife behind, and leaves no children, his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. 24Jesus answered and said to them, “Are you not therefore mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God? 25For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. Mark 12:18-19, 24-25, NKJV
12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12, NKJV
The bible is clear, the heavens belong to Him and other god-like beings but the earth is given to mankind. It never mentions of any habitat for man except earth.
When these were written, the amount of knowledge of what other planets and heavenly bodies offer as home to humans was very, very pale compared with what we know today.
It was a bold claim that turned to be true then and now.
Ironically, this biblical claim is actually reinforced by advancement of science and technology.
The advance capability to discover more parts of the universe could not produce any discovery that shows a better habitat for mankind than earth.
As it sits today, not even Mars or Venus, earth’s nearest neighbor planet, comes close to earth when it comes to being man’s home. The same goes for the earth’s own moon.
NASA confirms temperatures on the moon’s lunar equator at daytime will reach a boiling 120°C while nighttime temperatures get to a chilly -130° C. Even if the oxygen-carbon dioxide cycle is mimicked on the moon under those conditions, it would still be far inferior than conditions provided by the earth.
As off today, bringing human life permanently out of the earth by means of human-made processes to expand the habitat area is just fiction, like Star Wars or Star Trek.
All the science and technology advancement did so far was to make humans appreciate more what the bible says:
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1, New International Version
Purpose of the bible
The bible made clear what kind of book is it. It is intended for those who want eternal life. It is not a science or history book. Many tend to forget this.
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life. John 5:39-40, New King James Version
It also made its theme clear. While there are many tales narrated by the bible, one thing remains clear from start to finish: God is engages in a war versus Satan and He is encouraging man to get on His side so he will have everlasting life. That’s what the bible is for:
…she [Eve] took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband [Adam] with her, and he ate… And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” So the Lord God said to the serpent…I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed…. Genesis 3: 6, 14-15, New King James Version
The LORD’s model prayer emphasized this aspect: 9“This, then, is how you should pray:…. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6:9,13, New International Version
The presence of spirits/spiritual realm and multiple scientific, medical, and logical reasons that supports the bible and its authors’ credibility project a possibility that God do exists. As such, being conservative might be the best alternative here.
Accountants describe conservatism as selecting the option that would show the worst possible financial standing of a business entity when two or more unproven alternatives are available. This is to remove the user of the account’s output be exposed to a bigger risk in case the worst possible scenario happens.
As it stands, the risk of not believing in and obeying God far outweighs the benefits of doubting his existence. It might be best to act conservatively, believe what the bible says, until it is absolutely proven that there is indeed no God nor hell.
