TABUK CITY, Kalinga—The City Local Government Unit (CLGU) through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) distributed on May 24, 2021 the social pension for indigent senior citizens from six barangays of District 2.

The barangays are Cabaritan with 29 beneficiaries, Gobgob (34), New Tanglag (27), Tuga (41), Lanna (28) and Masablang (22).

According to Melody Dulawen, Social Welfare Officer III, the 181 recipients of the social pension program who are all sponsored by the CLGU received P3,000.00 each covering January to June of this year.

During the distribution, Dulawen reminded the senior citizens to use the cash assistance provided by the CLGU for necessary items like food and vitamin supplements for their nourishment.

Meanwhile, employees of the CSWDO, assisted by the barangays officials ensured that health and safety protocols were strictly observed until the end of the activity.

Earlier, the CSWDO announced that social pension distribution will be released in the barangays as one way to protect the senior citizens from Covid-19 virus being one of the most vulnerable sectors during this pandemic.

The distribution of cash assistance will continue on May 25-26 in 14 barangays of District 2 to cover 344 more beneficiaries.

In his previous statement, City Mayor Darwin Estrañero assured that the LGU-sponsored indigent senior citizens get regular assistance by allocating enough fund for the social pension program of the CSWDO.

Social Pension is an additional government assistance in the amount of P500.00 monthly stipend to augment the daily subsistence and other medical needs of indigent senior citizens who are frail, sickly or with disability, and without pension and permanent source of income, compensation or financial assistance from relatives to support their basic needs.
