LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap assured the people of the province that he will continuously look for whatever available resources from concerned government agencies and the private sector which will be used to extend assistance to those who have been continuously heavily impacted by the implementation of the various levels of community quarantine over the past ten months to contain the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
Yap, who attended the inauguration of the 16-bed isolation unit that was constructed within the compound of the Benguet General Hospital (BeGH), stated that with the downgrading of the status of the Cordillera from the present modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) to general community quarantine (GCQ), he will have to work double time to ensure the availability of resources that could be distributed to the people from the different parts of the province who will be heavily impacted by the enforcement of stringent rules and regulations.
He said that his office will be closely coordinating with the provincial government, the 13 municipal governments, the concerned government agencies and the private sector to ascertain the needs of the people which must be given appropriate attention during the implementation of the new quarantine status of the region and the province.
Congressman Yap admitted that the prevailing health crisis heavily impacted all sectors of the province over the past ten months and that the initial gains of the gradual opening of the economy will have to be compromised following the downgrading of the community quarantine status of the region, thus, the need for the people to be obedient in complying with the prescribed health and safety protocols which had been crafted to prevent many people from contracting and spreading the virus in their respective families and their communities.
According to him, he will continue to make the appropriate representations with the various government agencies so that the appropriate support for those who have been heavily impacted by the prevailing pandemic will be provided with the appropriate support to allow them to cope with the challenges that they are currently encountering because of the prevalence of the deadly virus.
Last year, Congressman Yap was able to source out enormous assistance from the various government agencies such as the medical assistance for indigent patient from the health department, the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) from the social welfare department, Tulong Panghanapbuhay Sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers program of the labor and employment department among other similar assistance which were distributed to tens of thousands of recipients from the province’s 140 barangays.
For this year, he claimed that he will continue to make similar requests with the concerned government agencies so that such similar assistance will continue to be provided to the people of Benguet, especially those who are in dire need of assistance for them to be able to hurdle the challenges that was caused by the prevalence of the pandemic that had been in the world for over ten months.
