BAUKO, Mountain Province – Public Works Secretary Rogelio L. Singson will be the town’s guest during the major highlights of this year’s Begnas di Bauko’on March 12, which is the start of the three-day festivities at the Bauko Catholic High School, Poblacion here.
The theme of this year’s festivities is “Menpaek ya Mamang-et ay iBauko, Gameng di Naiposgan daalapo” (Diligent and Vigilant People of Bauko, Gem of the Native Land).
Mayor Abraham B. Akilit said this year’s festivities aims to strengthen the mobilization and participation as well as bonding of the town’s 22 barangays.
“We will continue to empower our barangays to actively participate in our unrelenting and uncompromising efforts to preserve and protect our coulter and traditions for the benefit of the present and future generations,” Akilit stressed.
“Begnas di Bauko” is one of the cultural festivities being done in the municipality to commemorate its annual foundation day.
The highlights of the festival will feature the cultural presentation of the 22 barangays. A musical-theater presentation of the municipal government employees entitled “Tawid di Litagwan” under the direction of well-known local stage director Ventura Betot will also form part of the festivities that will contribute in enriching the knowledge of today’s youth on the rich cultural practices of the people of the municipality.
The theatrical presentation will focus on the responsible utilization and nurturing of the town’s natural resources in order to serve as a learning venue for today’s youth on how to effectively and efficiently preserve and protect the environment.
Trekking enthusiasts will have the chance to explore the beauty and scenery of the unexplored tourist destinations by participating in the trek to the town’s famous Spanish trail up to the camping site of Balintaugan and culminating at the ‘Lipas di Ipadogan” in the Bagnen Oriente area.
At present, Akilit said that the town’s agro-industrial fair is now underway at the municipal grounds until March 14.
On March 9-10, he disclosed that a local job fair will be conducted by the municipal government and the labor and employment department at the municipal grounds in order to provide jobs to qualified local residents to the available jobs to be offered by the placement agencies.
While in the municipality, Singson will also inaugurate the Mabaay-Abatan tourism road which was completed through a P97 million allocation from the convergence project of the public works and tourism departments over the past several years.
Mayor Akilit is inviting all natives of Bauko and prospective visitors to take timeout from their hectic schedules and spend the time to go back to their hometown to celebrate with their family members, relatives and friends this year’s festivities form them to enjoy going back home and for them to spread the news that Bauko has numerous things to offer to interested visitors wanting to spend a well-deserved break in the province in the future.
Akilit cited Bauko now serves as a jump of point of visitors from the lowlands and Baguio City to their desired destination in Sagada town and Banaue, Ifugao to complete the ecotourism circuit.
