BAGUIO CITY – The Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio (SOCOB) launched the 2016 search for the city’s outstanding citizen in Kapihan forum at City hall’s multipurpose hall.
the president of SOCOB and a 2003 awardee Dr. Priscilla Macansantos formally opened the nomination for the search. She ensured that the activity will not be influenced by politics because of the upcoming May 2016 election.
According to Dr. Macansantos they are looking forward to an active and intelligent participation of the candidates and electorates so that this coming election and selection will be marked by a mature and intelligent citizenship.
The former president and current vice president of SOCOB Dr. Reynaldo C. Bautista Jr. said that the society was created about 10 years ago and they are still hoping to continue finding outstanding citizens of Baguio not only from the upper class but from all walks of life.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan stated, “this is an opportunity for someone to be recognized doing good things for the city”.
The Director of SOCOB Dr. Elma Donaal said that social media is suggested to be used for nomination but the requirements should be complete if ever the body will check on them.
These Requirements include records of accomplishments, contribution and projects for the city.
Mayor Domogan said, there will be a non-biased judging during the selection, young/old will be given equal opportunity regardless of tribe, gender and religion which is supported by Rev. Oscar Magallanes who said “It doesn’t matter on what religion you belong it will not affect the decision”.
There are 2 important committees in the search, the nominating committee and the screening committee which will not vote. There will be 7 boards of judges including the chairman of the board which will make the final decision.
The Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio Hopes to have more nominees comparing to last year’s 11 that had 6 women being awarded. The nomination will end on June 16 and the awarding will be on Baguio Day September 1.
