BONTOC, Mountain Province – The senior citizens who acted as Vice Mayor and Sangguniang Bayan members for a day on October 5, 2020, proposed five resolutions focusing on the protection and welfare of the elderly.
During the session of the Senior Citizens Official for a Day (SCOFAD) at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall, they adopted the resolution of Barangay Tocucan Senior Citizens Association for the provision of assistive devices, such as walking canes for senior citizens. In their session, the SCOFAD included the other barangays to be recipients of assistive devices.
Also, the SCOFAD Sangguniang Bayan adopted the resolution of Barangay Poblacion Senior Citizens Association for the improvement of the pathway from the Pines Kitchenette going up to Sitio Bogbogan.
They proposed for the installation of railings to ensure the safety of the elderly who are hard up going up and down the stairs. In support of the livelihood of the senior citizens in Bontoc, the body enacted a resolution requesting the Provincial Government of Mountain Province to include the Municipal Senior Citizen Federation as a recipient of its animal dispersal program.
In recognition of centenarians in Bontoc, the SCOFAD Sangguniang Bayan proposed a resolution for the Bontoc LGU to provide a certificate and monetary award to senior citizens in Bontoc who reach 100 years of age.
Meanwhile, the clamor of most senior citizens on the imposition of the discounted tricycle fare of senior citizens was raised during the session. Accordingly, some tricycle drivers do not honor the seven pesos fare of senior citizens and collect the regular fare of nine pesos.
This is despite the passage of Ordinance No. 213, s. 2013 on the imposition of tricycle fare in Bontoc. With this, the SCOFAD Sangguniang Bayan enacted a resolution for the strict enforcement of said ordinance.
As part of the celebration of the Filipino Elderly Week, Josephine Villanueva replaced Vice Mayor Eusebio Kabluyen for a day.
