BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Health in collaboration with the Department of Education and Department of Interior and Local Government, the City of Baguio launched the School – based Immunization at Baguio Central School last Monday, August 10, 2015.
The program which started at 9 in the morning was graced by no other than the father of our city Hon. Mauricio G. Domogan who presented the merits of the activity and was later reinforced by City counselors Fred Bagbagen and Peter Fianza. Counselor Peter Fianza likened the given vaccines to the covered court by which parents chose to remain during the program because of the protection this may provide them from the heat of the sun or drizzles of rain.
The immunization using Measles-Rubella (MR) and Tetanus Diphtheria (Td) was given free to public school children enrolled in Grade one and grade 7. Rubella commonly known as German measles, tetanus and diphtheria are serious diseases caused by bacteria and may be prevented by having these shot of vaccines.
The immunization proper started just after the program and was given to pupils with parent’s written consent and with companion. Grade I pupils were observed for an hour by the Health and Nutrition personnel of the collaborating agencies and were excused from their classes after the immunization. Such activity was appreciated by most parents who knew the health value of the vaccines provided and the amount they spared.
