BAGUIO CITY – With the alarming number of dengue cases in the city, Mayor Mauricio Domogan recently signed Administrative Order No. 085 authorizing the conduct of synchronized clean-up drive and search-and-destroy activity as part of risk reduction management to mitigate the impact of dengue.
Earlier, Domogan directed all constituents of Baguio – barangays, schools and universities, church organizations, government and private offices – to do their part in fighting the mosquito-borne disease through the “Oplan Alis Kiti-Kiti, Goodbye Dengue”.
Based on the entomological survey reports done in some barangays, Aedes Aegypti and Aedes Albopictus have been identified as the primary mosquitoes thriving in the city.
Though dengue fever is fatal, it is preventable through concerted efforts among the members of the household, community, government and private sector. The impact can be mitigated by synchronizing all available efforts to rid the dengue-carrying mosquitoes, among others, stressed the mayor.
In line with the Oplan, Domogan ordered a synchronized clean-up drive and “search-and-destroy” activity simultaneously in all the 128 barangays in Baguio on August 13 and September 10.
“All barangay officials are designated to lead, oversee and mobilize their constituents to this mass action, and at the same time to activate organized groups in the barangay such as the Community Health Teams (CHTs), Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs), Barangay Risk Reduction Management Committee (BRRMC) to monitor that the search and destroy activity is done by each household daily,” stressed Domogan.
He reiterated that it is the responsibility of every individual to sustain the search-and-destroy activity daily to eliminate possible breeding sites of mosquito-causing dengue.
The City Health Services Office has been conducting misting in clustered breeding areas/sites in some barangays in the city.
