LA TRINIDAD, Benguet March 26 – The municipal government lauded real estate lessors and owners of commercial buildings in the municipality who waived the rentals of their lessors from March 16 to April 15, 2020 as a compassionate measure to those who lost their means to pay rent.
Mayor Romeo K. Salda urged everyone understanding in these trying times where many economic activities stopped leaving significantly reduced or no income at all to meet even their basic needs.
However, he disclosed that while there are kind-hearted individuals, there are also people who do not care for the welfare of their less fortunate brothers and sisters and giving deadline to their tenants to pay their rent or else they will be ordered to vacate their rented spaces.
“We should remember that during these trying times, we must learn to care for others because no one is an island. We should allow our conscience to reign over our desire for material things. Let us remember that we are all impacted by the enhanced community quarantine thus we must face its challenges together,” Mayor Salda stressed.
Earlier, a number of real estate lessors and owners of commercial buildings in the municipality signified their intention to waive the rentals of their tenants or lessees during the implementation of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine to mitigate the negative impact to sectors for them to ride over the slump due to the government’s aggressive fight against COVID 2019.
According to him, the mindset at this point is on how to help the vulnerable and marginalized sectors recover from the stoppage of their regular source of income.
Salda assured the municipal government will exert all efforts to convince the real estate lessors and owners of commercial buildings in the municipality to grant the necessary assistance to their tenants, such as waiving rentals during the duration of the enhanced quarantine, which they can use to get back to their normal activities once the quarantine will be lifted.
He admitted having received several complaints from concerned individuals who were given deadlines to settle their rent with their lessors over the past several days, thus he had to appeal to the said individuals to give due consideration to the plight of their tenants because the country is in an extraordinary situation where everyone is facing an unseen enemy.
Salda also stated that the municipal government will also to look into how it can help the heavily impacted businesses whose operations have been hampered with the order to close most of the businesses in the different parts of the country and not only in the municipality.
