ARINGAY, La Union – A member of an illegal drug syndicate operating in La Union who was suspect in the killing of a 31-year old lady drug user in Caba town on Sunday was killed in a shootout with policemen during a buy-bust operation at around 9:30 p.m. in Barangay Sta. Rita East here Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado Jr., La Union police information officer, identified the fatality as Christian Ugay, a member of the group of Salvador Marzan, the No. 3 in the drug watch list in Region 1 and the number 1 ‘high value target” in La Union.
Police said Ugay was suspect in the shooting to death of Melanie Carbonell, a drug user who surrendered recently, and the wounding of stray bullets of Jeofrey Domingo, 11, in Barangay Santiago, Caba, La Union.
Ordinado said Ugay tried to shoot it out with authorities after he sensed that the one he is selling shabu in a buy bust operation was a police agent.
Ugay allegedly run when he was accosted and tried to fire a gun at the operating troops but was subdued and shot by policemen. He died on the spot.
Meanwhile, Ernesto Daligues Jr, 21, another illegal drug personality, was shot by unidentified suspects while walking at Guerrero Road at Barangay Poblacion, San Gabriel La Union at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Victim allegedly suffered gunshot wounds on the different parts of his body and was rushed to the Lorma Medical Center in San Fernando City for treatment.
Suspects fled on board a motorcycle.
