The provinces, cities and municipalities that provide quality public services that enable companies to succeed will be recognized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Governments, as the 2016 Most Business-Friendly Local Government Units.
PCCI President George T. Barcelon invited all local government executives to submit nomination and award documents for the annual awards this year and last date of submission was last September 9.
The award is a PCCI-led initiative to recognize outstanding LGUs in instituting good governance reforms that enables transparency, accountability, and ease in doing business.
President Barcelon said that, “It is important to highlight achievements of our local government units and their important contribution in improving business climate in the Philippines. We are now the most improved economy in Global Competitiveness Report by moving 33 notches higher in the last five years. And this award commends and celebrates success of our LGUs in making their locality a viable destination for business.”
The Most Business-Friendly LGU is an annual award that has been going on for the last 14 years, with hundreds of LGUs being nominated each year
PCCI LGU Awards Chairman Jose S. Alejandro said, “This has become a tradition of recognizing excellence and at the same time encouraging our LGUs to improve year after year or else they would be left behind by more innovative LGUs. And at the end, the beneficiary of these improvements is not only the business but the citizenry as a whole.”
The Award is supported by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through a circular memorandum encouraging all LGUs to participate in the award and all provincial offices to support the participation of LGUs in their respective areas. DILG also exempts finalists of the award to the business-friendliness criteria of their Seal of Good Local Governance Awards.
The awarding of the Most Business-Friendly LGU is one of the events that will highlight the 42nd Philippine Business Conference & Expo on Oct.12-13, 2018 at the Marrio Grand Ballroom, Newport City Complex, Pasay City.(PCCI Press Release)
