BAGUIO CITY – An enlisted personnel of the Philippine Navy died while his female back rider was injured after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding van along Kisad road here at around 2:20 am Friday.

Superintendent Evilio Degay, chief of the Baguio City Police Office – Traffic Management Branch (BCPO-TMB), identified the victim as Christopher Manaois, a member of the Philippine Navy with the rank of Fireman 1 Utility, temporarily residing at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) compound in First del Pilar here.

His injured back rider was named as Anabel Fernandez Rabanon, 30, single, self-employed and a resident of Rock Quarry, Baguio City.

Probers disclosed the victim was driving his motorcycle without plate number and was proceeding towards the direction of the Baguio General Hospital (BGH) rotunda when it was hit by a speeding van behind. Because of the impact of the collision, the victim and his back rider were thrown off their motorcycle while the van which was also without license plate number sped off towards the same direction.

Degay said the victim was pronounced dead on the spot due to multiple head injuries while his back rider is now in stable condition after sustaining minor injuries due to the hit and run incident.

Law enforcers are still looking for possible witnesses who could identify the wayward van so that the owner and driver will face the charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, serious physical injuries and damage to property that will be subsequently filed against them before the city prosecutor’s office.
