BAGUIO CITY- Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Montessori High School Developmental teams toppled their counterparts from Berkeley, 46-41, during the 9th YMCA Inter-School Basketball Tilt. Seeing action on game three of the second day, Berkeley-A tried its luck against Mt. Carmel on what was to be an exciting game showed by the young athletes inching each other on both defensive and offensive plays.
Berkeley-A took the upper hand with a seven point lead 15-8 on the first canto of play, The run, however, was cut short by the Carmelian’s defense as they registered a two point advantage, 22-20, at the end of the second canto. The Carmelian defense and offensive charge paid off even in the third canto to take the front seat, 35-33, and lead over Berkeley by two points as time expired. The Carmelians continuously controlled the pace for the rest of the game until the end the buzzer and went home with a 46-41 win.
Also playing on the second day of action that brought excitement in the Elementary Division were Berkeley – B, who showed its game prowess against the Star College, Shilan Campus Elementary team – B, 70 – 7, at the end of the fourth canto of play; LUCBAN Elementary School, who also posted their first win for Elementary bracket A against Star College Elementary – A, 50 – 13.
On the other hand, MT. Carmel Varsity Team – A also posted its first win on the third day of competition soaring over the Star College HS-Varsity team-A. They controlled the boards to dictate the pace of the game from the start of the first canto of play posting an 18-10, 16-5, 17-11, and 19-19 quarter scores to end the game with a 19 point advantage, 64-45.
Meanwhile, the San Jose High School girl’s team also marked their first win over the Star College High School girls, 35-13, while the Saint Louis School Center Elementary boys – B took the upper hand in their division, winning over the University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School, 45-16.
Likewise, MT. Carmel elementary boys – A also outscored Mary Immaculate School Baguio City Incorporated, 40-30, at the end of the buzzer while Saint Louis Aurora Hill High School Varsity – B bowed down to the University of the Cordillera High School Jaguars, 88-46. MISBCI High School Developmental team A lost their game to the SLSC High School Developmental Team in bracket A, 26-42, as Berkeley – B High School development team edged the UCHSGS Jaguars by nine points, 68-77, for the developmental division bracket B to end the games on the third day of the tournament.
The Athletes and guest from the different elementary and secondary schools participating in the 9th YMCA Inter-School Basketball Tilt excitedly cheered for their respective ball clubs during the tournament with their yells and applause giving morale to their team performers hoping them to be able post their first win in the tournament.
