BONTOC, Mountain Province. The Philippine Red Cross – Mountain Province Chapter and the Mountain Province Athletic Team (Team MATE) calls on elementary pupils and all interested runners to participate in their Young Blood, Young Heroes Run on August 27, 2018 at Bontoc, Mountain Province.
“This is our way of celebrating the National Heroes Day scheduled on the same day. It is titled Young Blood, Young Heroes because this is mainly intended for children. We’ve organized several fun runs before but only for adults. This time, elementary pupils can join and bring out their A game,” said Billy Regaspi, organizer of the event.
Robert Pangod, Chapter Administrator of PRC-Mountain Province, expressed that they chose the elementary pupils for this run because they want to inculcate into their young mind the value of appreciating our national heroes.
“We aim to use sports as a channel to educate the children on the importance of honouring and remembering the country’s national heroes both known and unknown whose acts of courage has enabled the Philippines to grow as a nation,” he said.
Pangod added that this activity is a good training ground for children as it promotes active lifestyle, sportsmanship, camaraderie and volunteerism among them.
Events categories to be held will be the three kilometer run (3KM) for Grade I and II pupils, four kilometer run (4KM) for Grade III and IV pupils, and five kilometer run (5KM) for Grade V and VI pupils.
There will also be a ten kilometer run (10KM) side event open to high school and adult runners.
Registration fee is PhP300 for the elementary level and PhP500 for the adult level. The fees are inclusive of event shirts, medals and snacks.
The top three male and finishers from each category will receive trophies and gift packs.
Those who wish to participate may register at Aijay’s Marketing Extension, Chakas Bldg., Poblacion, Bontoc or the Philippine Red Cross, Capitol Compound, Poblacion, Bontoc, Mountain Province.
