LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Department of Education, in their efforts to strengthen the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education program, conducted the last tranche of training for elementary grade level teachers, particularly Grade six teachers, nationwide.
The Cordillera Administrative Region has an estimated 1, 586 Grade 6 teachers where the 554 Grade 6 teachers of the Benguet Division had their own training on May 7 – 13, 2017, in Baguio City. The training participants for the Benguet Division were divided into 10 classes and with class managers composed of the Education Program Supervisor and Public School District Supervisors.
The mass training of teachers (MTOT) for the Benguet Division intends to provide all Grade 6 teachers with concrete understanding of the curriculum framework, learning standards and competencies, pedagogy, teaching plans and assessment. They were trained by trainers who underwent the National Mass Training of Trainers (NTOT) on March 5 to 11, 2017, composed of supervisors, head teachers, and other teachers. Among the facilitators of the training for each subject area were Macarthy B. Malanes (EPS-Filipino),Warder A. Baltazar (EPS-PEH), Joseph L. Daganos (EPS-Aral. Pan) Ginalyn Cocoy, Melchor C. Tican (PSDS), Rinan Bruno (TLE), Sonia D. Duypagan (EPS-LRMDS), Felicitas O. Pangdew (Teacher III), Lily Ann B. Hilarios (MT I), Wilfred C. Bagsao (EPS-Mathematics),and Joan Culbengan (SP I)
The participants are expected to have learned to appreciate the Kto12 coded curricula and use the curriculum guides, teaching guides and learning materials correctly and efficiently; demonstrate understanding of the issues / concerns relative to content, performance standards, assessment and rating system and on differentiated instruction; identify the most appropriate pedagogies, and understand how to localize and indigenize the curriculum; cite concrete measures or interventions to assist all types of students; and cite connections of daily teaching and learning to the development of learning outcomes. All these are stipulated objected under DepEd Memorandum #18 s. 2017 and Department of Education, Benguet Division Memorandum Number 075, s. 2017.
The K to 12 enhancement program is a big shift in the Philippine educational system as it is not just adding two more years to basic education but it prepares every Filipino learner for tertiary education and to join the greater workforce of the population and skill competency in the global job market.
