MANKAYAN, Benguet– The municipal government commended local contractors for accomplishing quality infrastructure works in the different barangays funded from the coffers of the municipality over the past several months.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong reported municipal and barangay officials were impressed by the exemplary performance of the different local contractors who were awarded locally-funded infrastructure projects because of their ability to complete their projects way ahead of the prescribed schedule and doing more work than that provided in the plans and specifications of their projects.
He pointed out the contractors wanted to show to the people a new breed of project implementers in the municipality who put premium on the quality of their work because they are also users of these infrastructure projects, aside from the fact that they want to maintain their credible image among residents of the barangays where such projects were implemented.
“We are grateful that we continue to have people who put premium to the quality of their work and value their good image from the perception of others so that they can implement their awarded projects even more than what had been prescribed in the plans and specifications. The actions of the said contractors really speak well of the way they were brought up and the examples that they are now trying to project of themselves, thus, they are really worthy of emulation,” Mayor Ayong stressed.
The municipal chief executive claimed there are now many local contractors who are now trying to replicate the best practices displayed by some of them in the prosecution of their awarded projects which is beneficial to the recipients of the projects and the local government because the quality of the projects will now be ensured.
Ayong stated that what touched him is the revelation of some contractors that they opted to extend their 180-meter concreting project to a little over 200 meters because they are also using the paved road daily and that they do not want their fellow residents to be harping about the way the projects had been implemented, thus, the guaranteed good workmanship for such projects.
He explained there are some projects that had to be funded and implemented in phases because of the limited resources of the municipal government, particularly the 20 percent local development fund, but efforts are being done by the present administration to link with concerned government agencies, the provincial government, the Office of Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap, and the private sector to seek additional resources to ensure the implementation of more impact projects and enhance the delivery of basic services to the people in the far flung communities.
Mankayan is one of the five first-class municipalities and one of the three first-class towns that rely on mining as a major source of its resources to bankroll the sustainable implementation of high impact projects and improve the delivery of services.
Ayong asserted that one of the major thrusts of his administration is to improve the state of infrastructure in the different parts of the municipality to encourage increased economic activities and alternative sources of livelihood of the people. By Hent
