MANKAYAN, Benguet – Municipal officials and health authorities urged residents who manifest initial symptoms of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) to immediately seek medical consultation from the health facility nearest them so they can get the appropriate medication and intervention to prevent their health condition from being compromised.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong, who earlier admitted having contracted the deadly virus, stated that the best way for people to be updated on their health condition is for them to undergo frequent medical check-up from their private physicians or from the nearest health facilities.
“We have been extra careful in our movements but we still contracted the virus, thus we have to be extra careful in our movements. We have to abide by the restrictions being implemented for us to be spared from the virus,” Mayor Ayong stressed.
He appealed to the residents to continue strictly complying the basic health and safety protocols and the restrictions on their movement because these are still among the best weapons to prevent them from contracting and eventually transmitting the virus.
According to him, the compliance of the residents to the basic health and safety protocols and the restrictions on their movement is their individual responsibility and contribution as good citizens in preventing the local health care system from being compromised and the frontliners from being unduly stressed as they attend to the surge in the number of cases in the locality over the past several weeks.
Mayor Ayong pointed out that the municipal government and the health department will be able to control the surge in the number of COVID cases if people cooperate and observe the health and safety protocols, even when vaccines will be available.
He stipulated that people should not let their guards down especially because of the recent surges in the number of COVID cases in the different parts of the country as local officials and health authorities are concerned with the health and safety of the public while striking a balance on the possible gradual and safe revival of the local economy.
Ayong emphasized that COVID does not spare anyone as many government officials and influential people had been infected by the virus over a year now, thus, people should also be responsible for their personal their health and safety.
Further, he stipulated that the increase in the number of COVID-related deaths should also be a cause for concern and should seek early medical consultation once they are not feeling well. By HENT
