BUCLOC, Abra – A 23-year old man died after he allegedly drowned in a river while catching fish for his family’s viand at Labaan, here, Thursday.
Senior Superintendent Antonio Bartolome, provincial director of the Abra Provincial Police Office, identified the victim, who was reportedly suffering from epilepsy, as Jhay Frank Barcena, 23, single and a resident of barangay Labaan, Bucloc, Abra.
Initial police investigation showed that the victim asked permission from his family to go to catch fish for their viand.
However, his family members were worried after he was not able to go home for over six hours prompting them to seek the assistance of barangay officials and police personnel.
During the search and rescue operation, the victim’s lifeless body was seen floating on the river and autopsy results showed he did not suffer from any external injuries that might have caused his sudden death.
The victim’s body was brought home to their residence for him to be given a decent burial.
