LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The municipal government and the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (LTMPS) will sustain the deployment of law enforcers, government workers and volunteers to prevent the conduct of chicken dung trade in barangay Shilan pursuant to earlier orders issued against the lucrative trade.
Mayor Romeo K. Salda expressed disappointment over the failure of the chicken dung traders to attend last Saturday’s consultation for concerned parties, including the affected residents, to raise their issues and concerns towards the peaceful resolution of the long standing problem in the area.
He disclosed that the initial strategy adopted by the municipal government and the LTMPS in deploying law enforcers to guard the area where chicken dung trade has been conducted in the past proved to be effective because no chicken dung trading had been done over the past several days in the said place.
The municipal chief executive stated that the issuance of the closure order against the chicken dung trade in Barangay Shilan is anchored on previous orders issued by his predecessors that declared the municipality as a local government that does not recognize the sale of chicken dung as the same is considered nuisance due to the foul odor produced aside from other health hazards posed by the dung itself.
According to him, chicken dung traders should cooperate with the lawful order that was issued putting a total stoppage to their operations so that there will be harmonious relationship between the people living in nearby places and for them to experience convenience in living in their communities and not to be unnecessarily inconvenienced by the obnoxious odor emanating from the chicken dung sold in the area day in and day out.
Mayor Salda expressed optimism that the formula embraced by the local government and the LTMPS will eventually solve the problems that had been created by the chicken dung sale in the area so that law enforcers assigned to guard the possibility of the traders going back to their trading areas will be doing other important functions in maintaining law and order in the community.
He admitted that compelling the chicken dung dealers to vacate their trading area has been a headache for local officials over the past several years but political will in the implementation of the closure order of the said businesses should prevail because what matters is the health and safety of the people, especially during the prevailing difficult times caused by the wrath of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The mayor asserted that law enforcers will be constantly deployed in the former chicken dung area to prevent the traders from pursuing their illegal trade in the said place since it is the residents who had already spoken against the conduct of the trade as they do not want to be inconvenienced daily by the foul odor emanating from the trucks loaded with the dung.
