LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A labourer was killed by a fellow labourer through the use of a crowbar in a construction site at Bineng here recently.
Senior Superintendent Florante Camuyot, officer-in-charge of the Benguet Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Mr. Ruben M. Sibayan, of legal age, married, labourer while he named the suspect as Alfredo Gaerland Calimlim, 60, married, mason, native of Pozorubio, Pangasinan.
Initial police investigation that the victim and the suspect, together with their companions wrapped up a drinking session and decided to go to sleep with their two companions going ahead of them.
After a few moments, one of their companions hear a loud smash outside their camp prompting him to go out and see what was going on.
At this juncture, he saw the victim lying face down on the ground while the suspect was standing beside him holding a crowbar.
Their companion immediately sought the assistance of barangay tanods who in turn sought police assistance that resulted to the arrest of the suspect and the confiscation of the crowbar used in the fatal incident.
The victim was rushed to the Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) for medical treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival because of severe fractures on his head and body that caused his instantaneous death.
The suspect is now detained at the La Trinidad Municipal Jail awaiting the filing of appropriate charges against him before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
