ITOGON, Benguet – Newly installed Mayor Bernardo Waclin is eyeing the establishment of a dialysis center in the municipality to cater to the increasing number of kidney patients that need to undergo the treatment that will contribute in prolonging their lives.
Waclin, who is his first term as the town’s chief executive, stated that the proposed dialysis center will be situated in some of the local government’s isolation facilities that are no longer serving their purposes so that kidney patients will not be hard up in trying to arrange their schedules with the various dialysis centers in Baguio City and La Trinidad.
However, he claimed he will be meeting with the concerned private and government sector representatives to discuss the possible concept of the operation of the dialysis center for the formulation of the necessary guidelines governing its future operation before this will be rolled out.
Mayor Waclin pointed out that pointed out the municipal government needs to come up with programs to ease the burden of dialysis patients and their family members in sustaining their regular dialysis treatments with the active participation of the private sector.
According to him, there are identified possible areas where the dialysis center can be established but concerned government agencies and the municipal government must first thresh out potential problems in the operations of such a facility that will be included in the guidelines to be crafted governing the operation of the dialysis center.
The mayor disclosed the difficulties encountered by the dialysis patients and the members of their families in trying to schedule their treatment in the various private and public dialysis centers in nearby local governments that is why the municipal government is contemplating on establishing its own dialysis center in the municipality to provide the patients with easier access to their regular treatment and avoid being stressed out in having to schedule their treatment in other outside centers.
Waclin expressed hope that the private sector in the municipality will fully support the proposed establishment of this center so that its operation will be sustainable for the convenience of kidney patients and their families.
Itogon is one of the 5 first-class municipalities and one of the 3 first class towns heavily relying on the operation of large-scale mining companies as the source of its revenue to sustain the delivery of quality basic services and implement high impact development projects.
Waclin assured the people he will reciprocate the trust and confidence they bestowed on him in electing him as the town’s chief executive with sincere and dedicated service to help them have a better quality of life.
