KABAYAN, Benguet – A 51-year old woman died after she reportedly succumbed to cardiac arrest while inside her tent at Camp 2, barangay Eddet here around 10 pm Friday.
Superintendent Cherry Fajardo, public information officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera, identified the victim of natural death as Edna Ocampo Villanueva, 51, single, self-employed and a resident of No. 73 Forest Hills Drive Subdivision, Novaliches, Quezon City.
Initial police investigation showed the victim was found unconscious by his companion Paul Alexis Bernardino inside their tent in the said place while preparing to reach the summit the following morning.
Responding police operatives of the Kabayan Municipal Police Station immediately rushed her to the nearby Dennis Molintas Memorial Hospital in Daclan, Bokod, Benguet but she was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Johnny Salman due to alleged cardiac arrest.
It was learned that the victim and her companions went to the town to climb Mount Pulag, the second highest mountain peak in the country, when the incident happened.
Her remains was brought home by his companions who went to trek Mount Pulag to their residence in Metro Manila for her to be given the needed descent wake and burial rites.
