LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Concerned individuals connected to the State-run Benguet State University (BSU) expressed their disapproval in the alleged giving away of prime lands of the institution to the prejudice of the very purpose on why the higher education institution was established.
The sources claimed that the alleged giving away of lands to public institutions and allowing private institutions to lease their prime lots for business purposes is in gross defiance by the present administration of the earlier request of Benguet caretaker congressman Eric Yap for the institution to refrain from giving up its properties until such time that a comprehensive master development plan shall have been developed to allow the university to maximize the income-generating potentials of its prime properties for the improvement of its the facilities to conform with the fast changing trends in the global education system.
Yap envisioned the university to host a local version of a techno hub similar to the University of the Philippines Diliman techno hub that can be an economic driver in the whole province because of the enormous jobs that can be generated, aside from the income that can be derived from the operation of locators in the proposed techno hub.
However, the sources stipulated it seems that the aspiration of the institution to be provided with the techno hub is slowly waning because of the recent developments.
According to them, the administration should continue adhering to the very purpose on why the institution was created and why it was provided with the needed land so that it will be able to provide the present and future generations of the youth with quality education.
The sources reminds the present administration its repeated commitments during the selection of the presidency that it will be a listening administration. By HENT
