Firm reinforces disaster resilience campaign through road shows

BAGUIO CITY The Microinsurance in Building Disaster-Resilient Communities” in partnership with Cebuana Lhuillier, the country’s leading microfinancial solutions provider and the main proponent of the advocacy, has officially started the disaster resilience road show in Baguio.

The first road show was held on April 8 at the Citylight Hotel in Baguio City where stakeholders from private and public sectors gathered to discuss key concepts about disaster preparedness and recovery. Supported by the Insurance Commission and GIZ (The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), the program featured talks and presentations by Insurance Commission Microinsurance Division Representative Shayne Rose Bulos and by Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions

During the event, Ms. Shane Bulos discussed the benefits of having insurance, especially in the Philippines, a country hit by numerous and varied calamities every year. Meanwhile, Mr. Jonathan Batangan presented the work that they at CLIS are doing to offer financial security to Filipinos. In 2015 alone, Cebuana Lhuillier insured 6 million Filipinos with its premiere insurance product, the Alagang Cebuana Plus. With the recent introduction of the ACP Gold, an iteration of the ACP with an added micro-life coverage, the company hopes to provide more financial assistance to those in need, especially in times of crisis. ACP Gold will be available in all Cebuana Lhuillier branches nationwide by May 1, 2016.

They also talked about how important collaborative effort is to build a disaster-resilient nation. That already forged partnerships with various organizations on the national level. This time, through these road shows, they hope to reach out to and tap the local organizations that are at the forefront whenever these disasters strike to ensure that they achieve their ultimate goal.

Mr. Batangan said “I’m proud to say that we at Cebuana Lhuillier are constantly looking for ways to help Filipinos, especially those who belong to the most vulnerable sectors. This road show is just a facet of our disaster resilience campaign this 2016. We started the year with the Disaster Resilience Forum and we still have more to offer in the coming months. In June, we will mount the Nationwide Pilipino Protektado Day where we will provide free insurance covers.

Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions will also spearhead the creation of the Microinsurance Agents Association of the Philippines, Inc., an association of microinsurance individual intermediaries that will work towards the promotion of inclusive and responsible insurance. We intend to also launch the Alisto app which will further help people prepare for disasters.”

Aside from Baguio, the road show will also be brought to key cities such as Cebu and Davao as part of the company’s continuing effort to help prepare the public for disasters and champion microinsurance as one of the key tools to mitigate the impact of calamities in the lives of many Filipinos. Cebuana Lhuillier has long been helping Filipinos uplift their lives through its innovative microfinancial services and CSR programs on education and sports development for the youth.
