LAGAYAN, Abra – A 60-year old farmer died after he was repeatedly shot to death by still unidentified assailants at sitio Dumayco, barangay Ba-I here Thursday morning.
Senior Superintendent Antonio Bartolome, provincial director of the Abra Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Maximo Guyang Cortez, 60, farmer and a resident of Sitio Lunglungboy, Ba-i, Lagayan, Abra.
Initial police investigation showed the victim’s son came out from their house after hearing a burst of gun fire that emanated from nearby and was surprised to see his father lying bloodied on their ricefields.
The victim, who reportedly sustained a gunshot wound each on his chest and head, instantaneously died after the shooting incident while his assailants were able to flee from the crime scene.
Responding police operatives and elements of the Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) team recovered from the crime scene six spent shells of a calibre 5.56 which was believed to have been used by the suspects in the perpetration of the crime.
The motive of the victim’s murder has yet to be established by probers.
