DLORES, Abra – A 49-year old farmer died after he was allegedly shot by still unidentified assailants while he was on his way to their ricefield at Isit here early morning of New Year’s Day.
Senior Superintendent Antonio Bartolome, provincial director of the Abra Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Marcelo Ayunon Benoza, 49, married, farmer, and a resident of barangay Bulbulala, Lapaz Abra.
Initial police investigation showed the victim let their house at around 3 am of New Year’s Day in order to visit their ricefield.
However, when a concerned citizen passed by, he was surprised to see the lifeless body of the victim lying on the ground with blood oozing from his head and immediately reported the matter to the concerned police personnel.
Responding elements of the Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) team found that the victim sustained gunshot wound on his head which was inflicted by still unidentified perpetrators but his relatives refused to subject his body to further autopsy.
According to her relatives, he did not have any political alignments, thus, they7 are wondering why he was shot to death by still unidentified perpetrators.
No spent shell of a firearm was recovered by the probers within the vicinity of the crime scene so that the type of firearm used could have been established.
