BAGUIO CITY- The Baguio City Makret Authority (BCMA) is now considering requesting the city council to pass the appropriate resolution extending the night market along Harrison Road to include the available spaces at the Ganza parking area which spaces are not being utilized at night.
The Harrison Road’s night market accommodates 1,200 vendors where they sell clothes, shoes, accessories, food and many more. Night market was originally planned to contain the nomad sidewalk vendors along the streets.
Mayor Domogan announced the plan of the city to extend the area and will accommodate 500 night market vendors at the former Jadewell parking site.
Baguio City Market Authority (BCMA) stated the operation and the extending of night market area is still a subject of discussion.
The night market starts at 9:00PM to 12:00AM only (or thereabouts). However, people still wait for the extension and the opening of the said place.
Meanwhile, there are some that do not agree to the planned extension because it will result to stiffer competitions where some cannot reach their quota of selling and their tax is big.
While some night market associations are considering the extension as added competition that would deprive them of higher income, city officials want them to understand that what they want to be solved is the proliferation of ambulant vendors who should be relocated to the night market area for them to be engaged in legitimate business operations for the welfare of their families.
