The DOST-Benguet turns-over equipment for the cacao processing livelihood project of CEST Sablan today, 09 June 2022 at the Pangshan Function Hall, LGU-Sablan, Poblacion, Sablan, Benguet.  The said equipment shall be used for cacao processing of two (2) beneficiary-associations namely the Cacao Growers and Processors Association of Sablan, and Sablan Organic Practitioners Association.

During the program, Councilor Cornelio Almasen warmly welcomed all participants and acknowledged the support of the DOST in the municipality, urging the beneficiaries to maximize the project for their livelihood. This was supported by Vice-Mayor Arthur C. Baldo, representing Mayor Manuel Munar Jr. when he said that the LGU shall continue to support such projects that provide livelihood to their constituents. He also expressed his gratitude for the projects provided by the DOST-CAR in the Municipality.

Meanwhile, PSTD Sheila Marie B. Singa-Claver explained that while the project is a grant, it is not free since this is funded by government funds and in essence, taxpayers’ money. She added that the beneficiaries must be good stewards of the project and the equipment that shall be entrusted to them, and maximize these for their livelihood.

The simple ceremony was followed by a Training on Cacao-Based Products from June 9-10, 2022 with Ms. Eva Ritchelle Padua, Owner of Dulche Chocolates as Resource Speaker.

It can be recalled that the MOA for the CEST Sablan implementation was signed on February 15, 2022. Sablan, being a 5th class municipality is one of the CEST municipalities of the province of Benguet for the year.
