MANKAYAN, Benguet- The Division Evaluation Team (DET) revisited Mankayan National High School, the Most Functional School Learning Center in 2017 on September 21 to validate documents for the Search for the Most Functional Learning Center 2018.
Sonia D. Dupagan, Education Program Supervisor for Learning Resources led the ocular inspection together with Melvin L. Alfredo, Librarian II and Antoinette D. Sacyang, Project Development Officer. The team looked into the following criteria – physical structure and equipment, functionality, staffing, access, internet connection and other initiatives of the School Learning Resource Management and Development Center.
MNHS is the entry of Mankayan for Secondary level (full-time librarian) while Lepanto National High School for Secondary level (part-time librarian). Lepanto Elementary School on the other hand is the district’s entry for Elementary Level (big school) and Palatong Elementary School for Elementary level (small school).
Further, DET has been visiting district entries since August 27 to recognize schools that provide learners access to learning resources. The top three entries shall be given plaques and certificates of recognition during the Teacher’s Day.
“I’m surprised by the use of manipulative and other innovations, like comics, which we don’t usually encounter in secondary schools,” said Dupagan. “This is proof that teachers really want their students to learn,” she added. In addition, she encouraged teachers in other learning areas of the school to follow the best practices of math teachers.
With the advent of technology, the decline of the traditional library and the growth of Learning Resource Center are sealed. LRC is a library where learners can use both traditional and modern ways to access information, relax and learn. It contains a mix of print materials such as books, magazines and journals, and electronic resources like e-books, electronic databases and other web sources accessed via desktop, tablet or even phones.
