LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Cordillera office of the Department of Education (DepEd-CAR) conducted the second wave of In-house Workshop on the Development and Quality Assurance of Quarter 3 Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) among 60 teaching and non-teaching personnel of the department’s Benguet and Baguio offices at the NEAP- CAR Training Center, Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet on Jan. 26-28.
Carmel F. Meris, Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) Chief, welcomed the participants with a reminder on strict compliance of health protocols while reiterating the purpose of the workshop with the hope of providing quality SLMs to CAR learners from grades 4-12.
Meanwhile, Florante E. Vergara, Assistant Regional Director, encouraged every learning provider to reimagine education by ensuring that learning is personalized and competency-based. Moreover, learners have to take ownership because learning happens anytime, anywhere. He said, “Trust the butterflies but think of their readiness”. “Develop SLMs in a conversational manner and tone down the vocabulary so that learners will love SLMs besides mere completion”, he added.
On the other hand, Elizabeth T. Calbayan, Learning Aids Specialist oriented the participants on SLM development while Asterio C. Madalla, Education Program Supervisor- Science discussed on how to consider the elements of a module when developing and evaluating SLMs.
In addition, Victor U. Sotelo, National Illustrator reminded the participants on the guidelines in digital illustration to adhere to DepEd social content and consider contextualization.
Further, the education program supervisors in the different learning areas worked exclusively with the participants to meet learning resource standards and processes. By JARDSON S. ONIO
