LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A 61-year old employee of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was injured after he accidentally shot himself inside their house at Western Buyagan, Poblacion, here, recently.

Senior Superintendent Florante Camuyot, officer-in-charge of the Benguet Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Gregorio Bulanit Taltala, 61, married, utility man at the DENR Office, native of Sagada, Mt. Province and a resident of  Western Buyagan, Poblacion, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Initial police investigation showed the victim narrated that he went to a nearby store to have his mobile phone loaded but he reportedly heard a loud sound that subsequently caused him to fall on the ground with blood oozing from his thigh.

However, the store informed probers that they never saw the victim go to their establishment nor heard a loud sound that emanated from nowhere.

Further investigation showed that the injury of the victim was a self-inflicted one and that probers requested the victim’s son to surrender the firearm used in the incident.

The victim was rushed to the Baguio Medical Center for medical treatment of the lone gunshot wound he sustained from a self-inflicted wound.
