TUBLAY, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap assured the people and officialdom of the province that public service will continue to be rendered for the welfare of the greater majority of the populace for them to be able to recover from the heavy impact of the prevailing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic where such service will be done the Benguet way.
Yap stated now is the time for public servants to show they still deserve the trust and confidence of their constituents because it is the time when people need assistance for them to hurdle the heavy impact of the COVID-19 to their lives.
He pointed out that the best way to show to the people genuine public service is to be at their side during the difficult times and extend to them a helping hand and comfort them and motivate them to continue their journey in life.
The lawmaker claimed that the criticism being hurled against him by his critics will not help them in advancing their cause because what the people want from the present batch of officials is their presence in their communities to help them to cope with the heavy impact of the pandemic to their lives which had been deeply affect for over a year now.
According to him, it is unfortunate that there are people who want to simply criticize what he is doing to bring to the grassroots level the key programs, projects and activities of concerned government agencies, such as the labor department’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para Sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, the health department’s medical assistance to indigent patients and the social welfare department’s Assistance to Individuals and Crisis Situation (AICS), among many other related interventions but the same will deter him from continuing to serve the interest of the people of Benguet.
Congressman Yap underscored he will not hesitate to lobby the government agencies to bring to the people of Benguet vital programs, projects and activities that will advancing the socio-economic development in the countryside through the building of more road networks, put up of more post-harvest facilities, enhancement of livelihood projects among other important interventions that will create more jobs and significantly improve economic activities in the rural areas.
He challenges local officials not to wait for the election period before coming out in the open to come to the rescue of their constituents but they should start showing to the people their brand of service worthy of helping bring them back to higher positions that they deserve.
The caretaker congressman stipulated that politicians had been used to coming out in the open when the election period is just around the corner but the same is not the case now because of the serious negative impact of the prevailing COVID pandemic to the living condition of the people not only in the urban centers but also in the rural areas where most of the sources of livelihood of the people had been impacted.
