LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap appealed to the public not to be misled by the lies being spread by some desperate politicians and their allies just to malign and ruin his image to advance their own personal and political interests, especially to gain headway in the upcoming May 2022 synchronized national and local elections.

Yap, who chairs the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, expressed disappointment on an obviously orchestrated move by some embattled politicians to discredit him by spreading false information against him and his programs, projects and activities geared towards advancing the state of development in the province and ensuring that people will have access to the government’s basic services.

He pointed out that the said actuations of the embattled politicians is a sign of desperation for them to get rid of him as their rival in the upcoming elections as they are not able to replicate what he has done in less than two years of being the province’s legislative caretaker.

Earlier, Congressman Yap called on politicians to come out in the open to help the people from the different barangays who had been heavily impacted by the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic for them to show their concern for the welfare of their constituents similar to what he had been doing over the past several months as it is the time for them to shine considering that elections are still far from being realized.

Instead of heeding his call, Yap’s potential opponents have waged various efforts to spread misleading information against him ranging from coming out with their motto Benguet is for Benguet, questioning his residency, citizenship and his motive in buying properties in the province up to raising issues for his disqualification in the province’s congressional race.

The lawmaker emphasized that what he is doing for the province is to show the people a new brand of leadership that transcends beyond political alignments because the people deserve the best kind of service from the government through their elected leaders and what he has been displaying is genuine public service.

According to him, he learned to love the peace-loving people of Benguet and that he embraced the culture and traditions of the indigenous peoples being adopted son of Benguet, thus, it is unfair for his detractors to claim that he is not from the province.

Congressman Yap called on the public to be circumspect in treating the evidently false and malicious information being circulated by his detractors through various forms of media as the same is tainted with ill will simply to discredit him and his accomplishments as the province’s legislative caretaker that will impact his plan to run for congressman to represent Benguet in the halls of the House of Representatives.

Yap expressed his gratitude to the people who continue to trust and believe on what he can do to sustain the gains of what he was able to achieve during his stint as the province’s legislative caretaker and that he wants to continue representing Benguet in the House to further advance the state of development and enhance the delivery of basic services to the grassroots level.

Yap is expected to file his certificate of candidacy for Representative of the lone district of Benguet anytime. By HENT
