BAGUIO CITY – The city government will work on a common design for the proposed rehabilitation and upgrading of existing satellite markets and the construction of new ones in the different parts of the city to serve as added attractions not only for residents but also for tourists alike.
City Building Official Engr. Nazita F. Bañez said there is an existing design for the proposed rehabilitation and upgrading of existing satellite markets earlier built by the city government and the same will be submitted to the City Mayor’s Office for comment, recommendation and eventual approval to be used for all the established satellite markets and the proposed new ones to be constructed in strategic areas.
Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong expressed his support to the programmed rehabilitation and upgrading of existing satellite markets in the different parts of the city but there should be a common design which is culturally-inspired and aesthetic.
He disclosed that SM Prime holdings will work on the rehabilitation of the San Vicente satellite market with its own design and the same design must be used in the improvement of similar satellite markets in the different parts of the city to create uniformity in the design and establish the identity of the city government and those who supported the improvement of such facilities.
The City Mayor said the approved design of SM on the improvement of the San Vicente satellite market and the existing design of the CBAO for such structures will have to be merged to adopt good aspects of both designs for use in the upcoming improvement of other satellite markets.
According to him, a well-designed and properly constructed satellite market in the different parts of the city can entice residents and visitors to patronize the said facilities because of the beauty and the ambience, thus, contributing in current efforts of the ciyt government to convince people to patronize the businesses inside satellite markets in the city and sustain local livelihoods and decongest the central business district.
Initially, the city government included in its annual budget the rehabilitation and improvement of a number of big and small satellite markets to improve not only the businesses of awarded vendors in such government facilities but also other business activities in the different barangays citywide.
Aside from providing funds for the improvement of satellite markets, the city government is also studying the possibility of constructing new satellite markets in suitable areas in other barangays of the city that do not have such structures to provide residents the service of such markets and contribute in the decongestions the public markets at the central business district.
