TABUK CITY, Kalinga – To ensure that the posting of tarpaulin for candidates for the national elections are followed, the Commission on Election (COMELEC)-Tabuk, together with personnel from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Tabuk, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Tabuk city government, conducted “Operation Baklas” around the city on February 28, 2022.
Acting COMELEC Officer John Paul Martin said that he is already anticipating a possible influx of illegal posters once the local campaign period starts.
“At least ngayon palang, alam na natin kung saan namin titignan kung saan yung mga illegal posters lalo na sa mga puno, electric posts, waiting sheds, beside the highway and the like kasi bawal ang mga ito,” he said.
Additionally, Martin stated that they will issue notices to private property owners who have illegally sized posters to remove them willingly.
“We’ll give them notice to take down the illegal posters themselves, or we’ll file the appropriate charges,” he said.
The maximum size for posters, according to Martin, should be 2×3 feet.
“Illegal poster na yan if that poster exceeds the maximum size.” kung ok lang yung size pero nakasabit sa puno, pati sa mga public buildings unlawful din,” he explained.
Despite congratulating Tabuk City on only noticing a few illegal posters along the road, the Acting COMELC Officer noted that his office will continue to survey the city.
