KABAYAN, Benguet – Mayor-elect Faustino Aquisan underscored that the municipal government will work on the revival of the town’s tourism industry to spur the economic growth and development that will contribute in improving the living condition of the people in the municipality.
Aquisan, who emerged victorious in the town’s mayoralty post in the May 13, 2019 mid-term elections, said people look forward to the revival of the local tourism industry which placed the town in the map of must-see tourist destinations around the country so he will initiate the conduct of tourism-related activities to help bring back the identity of Kabayan as one of the major tourism destinations north of Manila.
“We will work with our tourism stakeholders to bring back the vibrance of our tourism industry which had been obviously neglected by those who took over from us. We will make sure we imprint back Kabayan in the tourism map to where it was when we were the town’s local executive,” Mayor Aquisan stressed.
The local chief executive pointed out with tourism at the helm of the local government’s priority programs and projects, economic activities among the residents will surely flourish and generate more jobs and added sources of income for the people.
According to him, the enhanced tourism programs and projects will also contribute in the government’s overall efforts to preserve and protect the town’s environment that maintains the scenery of the different tourist destinations around the municipality.
Kabayan hosts the Mouth Pulag National Park, the second highest mountain in the country and home to the century-old mummies located in the different caves and museums in the municipality.
He added he will also revive the program on culture with the regular conduct of culture-related activities that will empower the youth by actively involving them in such activities which could also serve as added tourist attractions in the locality, especially during the town’s crowd drawing events.
Aquisan asserted even tourists have been looking for the culture-related activities which were done during his tenure municipal mayor for them to maximize their stay in the municipality and to be acquainted with the culture and heritage of the indigenous peoples in the community.
Aquisan said that he will renew his network with the relevant government agencies to get technical and financial support for the municipal government to spur the growth of the local tourism industry.
He said Kabayan will be brought back to the tourism map and residents will reap the fruits of a robust tourism industry that will also spur the desired economic growth beneficial to the people in the different communities.
