City officials expressed the sincerest gratitude and profound recognition of the city government to the business entities, civil society organizations, philanthropists, and other individuals who unselfishly channeled their resources in various forms to the city during the most stringent public health emergency caused by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) global pandemic.

Under Resolution No. 373, series of 2020, signed by Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong, city officials claimed with such gesture, generosity and overwhelming support of the donors, the city government wished the businesses to flourish, organizations to survive the test of time, and their tribes to increase.

The Council stated that during the most stringent COVID-19 pandemic, donations in various forms from different unselfish business entities, civil society organizations, philanthropists and other kind-hearted individuals from different parts of the country poured in and were channeled to the city for distribution to the residents in the city’s 128 barangays and to those adversely affected by the global pandemic.

Further, the Council said the numerous donations greatly augmented the city’s emergency funds and resources in reaching out to the poor constituents by giving them financial and material support, in terms of assorted relief goods, essential oral medicines, multivitamins among others to help them boost their immune system as part of the prescribed preventive measures to ensure that they will not contract the deadly virus that will compromise their prevailing health conditions.

According to the Council, the implementation of the community quarantine to prevent the rapid spread of the deadly virus has brought out the ‘Bayanihan’ spirit among most of the business entities, civil society organizations, and kin-hearted individuals that paved the way for the generation of substantial resources that sustained the provision of relief assistance to the vulnerable and marginalized sectors of the city, especially at the height of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Earlier, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) designated some 20 family life resource centers in the different districts of the city to attend to the relief assistance inquiries of residents from the various barangays who were not provided with any assistance during the implementation of the community quarantine for the same to be given the said aid.

The city social welfare department decided to set up the family life resource centers in the different districts to unload from the said office attending to queries on residents who did not get any relief assistance to allow the department to concentrate in early preparations for the rainy season and typhoons that are expected to visit the city in the coming months as the weather bureau has announced that the rainy season in the country has started.

Part of the preparations being done by the CSWDO is the stockpiling of relief supplies for distribution to heavily impacted individuals who become victims or survive the natural calamities expected during the rainy season in the coming months. As a good number of typhoons are expected to visit the city on the said time of the year.
