TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The lifeless body of a 43-year old farmer was fished out by concerned residents and police operatives in the irrigation canal at Purok 1, Agbannawag here Monday.
Senior Superintendent Victor K. Wanchakan, officer-in-charge of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office, identified the victim as Liza Gumpad Bagto, 43, married, farmer and a resident of Agbannawag, Tabuk city, Kalinga.
Initial police investigation showed the caretaker of a nearby farm was trying to remove the items that bock the smooth flow of water in the irrigation canal when he happened to hold on to the legs of the victim prompting him to report the incident to the police.
Responding police operatives were able to fish out the lifeless body of the victim from the said irrigation canal.
It was learned that the victim had a long standing problem with her husband that forced her to commit suicide by drowning herself in the irrigation calan.
The victim’s family brought her cadaver home to give her a descent burial.
