BAGUIO CITY – Boleroz ballhawked the Bloothers, 94-85, while ROC-B outlasted the Baguio Water district, 79-75, to propel themselves back in the race for the semis during games held last week for the YMCA Cup at the YMCA Gym, here.

The boleroz controlling of the boards offensively with steady shooting from the three point area as well as inside the paint got started with swift 23-17 run in the first canto. Joey Halili, Erasmo Alvarez, Albert Ogoc, Roy Garbida and Lenz Antolino came up with points to contribute to the early head start.

Bloothers’ Rick Fernandez, Paul Las Marias, and Bonnie Mayo, kept the Bloothers afloat with their offensive conversions but the Boleroz came up with a 28-20 blast in the second canto to finish the first half of play upt by 14, 51-37.

The third canto saw Bloothers push their offensives to the limit and was able to chip off the lead with a 21-17 blast, 68-58, still in favor of Boleroz.

The Boleroz capitalized in controlling the pace of the game with their offensive strategies while the Bloothers came short of formulating and strengthening their defensive strategies to at least control Boleroz shooting spree.

The Bloothers manage to outscore the Boleroz in the fourth but only by one point, 27-26, to come in short yielding the nine point win.

Meanwhile, ROC-B’s intensity to win the game prevented the Baguio Water District from building a big lead after the first canto, 22-19. A slow paced game ensued in the second canto as both ball clubs had a hard time mustering points in the basket due to tight defense strategies. This situation, however, gave ROC-B an opportunity to get the lead, going on a 16-12 run courtesy of ROC’s Carlito Solis that gave them the lead 35-34 at the end of the first half.

The teams engaged in a neck-to-neck battle with ROC barely edging BWD, 22-21, to move up by two, 57-55. BWD’s Alvin Ora, Marck Regua, and Jayson Tan, commandeered their team while Eljay Vinluan, Carlito Solis, Donald Colanta and Earl Boado carried ROC.

Both teams were given good breaks in the fourth canto but the tight game continued with ROC just outpointing BWD by two, 22-20, to win the game 79-75 at the end of the fourth.

The other winners in last week’s match-ups are: My Desk 78, Supreme 67; Monday Club 91, Falcons 97; DOPE 82, ROC-A 89; and FILAMBRI 83, BENECO Voltz 92.
