SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Local cyclists from different provinces in Northern Luzon came together to promote adventure tourism here, particularly in the La Union Botanical Garden, during the Bikeathon last Sunday, July 9, 2017.
Around 82 registered cyclists from La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Manila gathered in front of the City Hall to take the challenge route of 16 kilometers.
The event started at Barangay I and passed through Cabaraoan, Tanqui, Lancuas, Birunget, Sibuan-Otong, Masicong, and Cadaclan before reaching the final leg at the La Union Botanical Garden.
Some of the cyclists fell and got minor injuries while taking the steep routes but they overcame the challenges while enjoying the magnificent view of the city from the mountains. Racers also participated in the tree planting activity held within the gardens.
The activity was organized by the City Government of San Fernando through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in partnership with the Fun Cycling Club.
