BAGUIO CITY – Bearing the theme “Tayo Para sa Paaralang Ligtas, Maayos at Handa Mula sa Kindergarten Hanggang Senior High School,” officials, teachers, pupils, parents and volunteers of the Baguio Central School (BCS) participated in the Brigada Eskwela 2016 held at BCS Grounds on May 30, 2016.
The program started at 8:15 AM and Mr. Nixon C. Elahe, the Head Teacher II of BCS, gave the opening remarks giving a brief background on Brigada Eskwela. He said that Brigada Eskwela started on 2003 and he also discussed why they should join the 2016 Brigada Eskwela.
Elahe pointed out that the main reason for the Brigada Eskwela was that all public schools will have a weeklong activity two weeks before the start of classes to avoid letting children clean during their first day of attending school.
Mr. Benson B. Moga, Chairman of the Program Implementation Committee, then presented the volunteers that will join and help in the Brigada Eskwela coming from different organizations such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), Alternative Learning System (ALS), the Fire Department, BJMP, NAPOLCOM, Department of Works and Highways (DPWH), University of the Cordilleras Architecture and Engineering Group, CDRRMC, and police trainees.
Dr. Esther K. Litilit, principal of the said school, also introduced the speaker who gave his message in line with the event. Mr. Benjamin Macadangdang, General PTA President of Baguio Central School, was the guest speaker and he acknowledged the presence of the barangay officials, policemen, and all volunteers who were present during the program.
Macadangdang also appealed to parents for support to the school, in cash or in kind. Aside from that, he also discussed the contributions to the PTA and where these will go. At the end of his speech, he said “Let us work together for a better BCS.”
Mr. John F. Kiniway, Physical Facilities Coordinator, discussed and presented what should be done to improve the school.
Some of these activities include cementing and concreting the school grounds at the side of the newly-built stage in front of Grade One rooms, making a canal in front of the Grade Two rooms, putting up of gutters, repairing the comfort rooms, pathway or walkway or shade along the boundary with Josefa Carino Elementary School (JCES) and BCS, painting of classrooms, rehabilitation of electrical wirings, and cleaning of canals and existing gutters.
After the presentation of these activities done, Elsie Diwas, Grade Two Coordinator of BCS, turned over P59, 540, the total amount of donations collected during the issuance of cards last April 4, 2016.
Afterwards, Mrs. Elvira G. Daguio, chairperson of the program, presented the members of the Steering Committee.
Albert Baguiwen, co-chairman of Daguio, thanked all the volunteers, parents, and everyone who were present during the opening program.
