BAGUIO CITY- Baguio City High School, the biggest high school in Northern Luzon will be celebrating its centennial anniversary by June this year with the theme of BCHS @ 100 Responding to Opportunities and Creating Possibilities. BCHS officials said that as early as now, preparations for the centennial anniversary of the public secondary institution is underway in order to guarantee the successful conduct of the milestone of the school which was achieved through the years.
Chief Education Supervisor, Elma D. Donaal, Ed. D. said that City High is the only school she knows for her whole career and God gave her good wisdom. She added “if I will be given the chance to write a book, there will be learning because of my experiences,” she makes sure of the managements of schools are done accordingly. She discourages politicians as guest of speaker in their commencement/recognition rites, only outstanding alumni of the school will be the guest of speaker to give inspiration to students.
The Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) has a big benefit to every school especially in BCHS according to BCHS-PTAI President, Edong Carta, where it reaches 50 percent record of transparency and it was been used as a complaint place for students and parents for sharing their sentiments about school fees of their child. PTA role is to not to pressure their part as a member where they disseminate info to others and counting on the tri-media and lastly, helped handling things in proper perspective and light mode whenever someone or something is on the issue their goal is to give support financially and transparency for the fund.
There will be two major celebration first is the centennial celebration continuing to show BCHS as a leading school of the country and the preparation of senior high school program. According to Romulo M. Flora, Principal IV BCHS the celebration it’s not only for students but for the whole community and showing partnership to stakeholders.
Out of 22 activities, there are major activities the highlights of the said celebration is the Mr. and Ms. BCHS Centennial for students and Mr. and Mrs. Centennial for teachers which will be happening on June 16. The Centennial Song for the interested participants like students, singers even amateurs and alumni, Centennial Souvenir Program will show the history of BCHS, Zumba, open contest for theme and logo making of the celebration from stakeholders, students, teachers and alumni where the English department of the school head this contest and by January, they announced the winners and the alumni homecoming according to Donaal. And she’s thanking the use of social media to invite and contacting the alumni to come. She said that there’s still no exact number of alumni who will come but they had exact number for batch 1991.
The BCHS is ready for the K-12 Program where Principal Flora stated only or more than 600 students is accommodated, no outside students and they are ready to start for senior high school. BCHS is ready for only 15 sections this coming school year where construction of additional classrooms is ongoing. The plans to improve the school is to sustain all programs, put additional plans if it will benefit the school and put icing on the cake. The ratio of teacher-students will 40 can go as 50 class size per section. Flora also added that BCHS has the advantages in offering senior high school where the facilities used by junior high school and the health of the students is their concern that they build more comfort rooms that has a ratio of 1-50 students per cubicle.
