BAGUIO CITY – The management of the Baguio Country Club (BCC), the only exclusive club in this mountain resort city, donated P1 Million to help fund the implementation of various environmental preservation and protection programs of the city government that will contribute to the efforts to achieve a better Baguio.
BCC general manager Anthony R. de Leon formally handed over the check of the club’s donation to Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong during the regular flag raising ceremony of the city government held at the City Hall grounds last Monday.
He explained the donation to the city government was approved by the Board of Directors as one of the thrusts of the BCC board chaired by Atty. Federico Agcaoili is environmental preservation and protection within the club, thus, the awareness must be expanded citywide through the donation.
The BCC official disclosed the city government will be assured of continuous support in terms of donations in various forms to help in efforts to sustain the preservation and protection of the state of the city’s environment.
One of the present administration’s 15-point collective agenda is the revitalization of the environment to sustain the growth of the city tourism industry as the city’s cool weather condition is its natural pull for domestic and foreign tourists to frequent the city.
According to him, this fact needs a consolidated effort among concerned sectors to preserve and protect the environment by working to increase the forest cover and intensify the campaign to reduce the pollutants in the city’s air that affect the air quality, especially in the central business district area.
Bad smoke emitted by motor vehicles contribute around 70 percent of the pollutants in the city’s air, thus, the intensified campaign of the concerned government agencies and the city government in the implementation of the anti-smoke belching campaign.
Aside from finding ways and means to improve the city’s air quality and significantly increase the city’s forest cover, the city government aims to improve the city’s sewerage system to treat waste water being discharged by residential and commercial establishments to the different bodies water in various parts of the city.
Mayor Magalong expressed the city government’s gratitude to the BCC management for its donation to the city’s environmental preservation and protection programs as the same greatly help the city realize a revitalized environment within the next three years once all the desired programs and projects will be put in place.
The mayor claimed that numerous groups pledge their all-out support to the implementation of the various interventions crafted by the concerned government agencies and city government to achieve the overall goal of improving the state of the city’s environment in the next 3 years.
