BAUKO, Mountain Province – A lady centenarian from this municipality was honored and awarded by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan through Board member Romeo Pagedped during a flag raising ceremony at the Bauko Municipal Hall on May 30, 2016.
Elita Angalan Damong was born on February 20, 1916 at Guinzadan, Bauko, Mountain Province. A widower, she now lives alone in her house, frequently visited by her grandchildren who occasionally check on her. Still mobile and active at age 100, she acknowledges simple living, simple and good food, and good working habit as contributory factors to having long life.
Having raised 10 children with 80 grandchildren, she instills in them the value of INAYAN and MAMANG ET. INAYAN is the value of prohibiting deeds that are harmful to common good and unity. MAMANG ET is being diligent in all works.
The award and recognition of senior citizen aged 100 years and above is in execution of Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ordinance 192 or the Centenarian Ordinance. She received twenty Five Thousand Pesos and a certificate for the award.
Mayor Abraham B. Akilit join the people of Bauko in celebrating Elita Damong’s long life and recognizing her advocacy for INAYAN and good lifestyle.
He encouraged the people to review the traditional lifestyle like reorientation with camote tops, organic vegetables and fruits, integration with nature as in walk and work with the rice fields or payas (indigenous irrigation canals) or a visit to the kakaiwan(woodland). Akilit reiterated his agriculture advocacy on good agricultural practices and organic agriculture.
