City officials commended teachers and educators in the city for their service, efforts and contributions in sustaining the improvement of the education system during the annual celebration of the National Teachers Month.

Under Resolution NO. 468, series of 2021, local legislators stated that celebrating the National Teachers Month is an expression of profound gratitude to all teachers and educators be it from the public or private learning institutions, especially in these times of health crisis, where one of the most affected sectors is education.

The council added that such celebration further elevates the level of awareness and support on the value of their imperative role in honing the future of the youth through the sheer power of potent education.

The body claimed that appreciating the relentless efforts of teachers and educators and their unconditional sacrifices will surely further inspire them to keep going and empowering learners, while ensuring that education is one aspect that should never be set aside even during this time of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to the legislators, the State recognizes the indispensable role of teachers and educators in passionately empowering their learners and in shaping the future of the country.

Earlier, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated the 5th day of October of every year as World Teachers Day which is an important day to celebrate the very essential role that teachers play in guiding the children, youth, adults and all learners through the life—long learning process.

Subsequently, Presidential Proclamation No. 242, series of 2011 declared September 5 to October 5 of every year as National Teachers Month which intends to highlight the very important role teachers and educators play in the successful development of the community.

This year’s celebration carries the theme ‘My Teacher, My Frontline Hero’ which keynotes the highly essential role that teachers and educators play in delivering quality-driven education services amidst the ongoing global crisis.

At present, Baguio City is known as the center of education of the north and that the said title does not only pertain to the ballooning number of learners and students coming from different places that reflects the quality of education being delivered through the highly competent teachers and committed educators.
