BAGUIO CITY – The city government commended the 2018 most outstanding and exemplary Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials and districts in the city.
Resolution No. 142 series of 2019, was personally handed by city officials led by Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan to the individual recipients of the different awards as part of the local government’s effort to empower youth leaders to take part in the overall affairs of the city.
The 5 Most Outstanding SK chairperson were Carla Joy M. Cacho of Irisan barangay, Van Paulo C. Sanchez of Brookspoint barangay, Jeric M. Sinner of Gibraltar barangay, Daniel M. Seguin of City Camp Proper barangay and Mark Anthony Y. Alvar of Lower Lourdes Subdivision barangay, while the 2018 Most Exemplary SK kagawads were Thom Bryan Buclay of Kias barangay, Servando Quelino of West Quirino Hill barangay, Kenneth Barlis of Irisan barangay, Nawrence Panyo of Gibraltar barangay, Georgie Mae Domegson of Middle Quirino Hill barangay and Claire Tel-en of San Vicente barangay.
On the other hand, the Most Exemplary District Coordinators were Aloisius Nyk Aldea of City Camp Proper representing District 5, Soulykha Ruth Chokyogen of Pinget barangay representing District 8, Precious Wigan of Asin barangay representing District 15 and Leani Aguinnaya Pangket of Kias barangay representing District 12 while the Most Exemplary SK Districts were District 12 composed of Kias, Loakan-Apugan, Loakan Proper, Loakan Liwanag, Fort del Pilar and Atok Trail; District 5 composed of City Camp Central, City Camp Proper, Lower Rock Quarry, Upper Rock Quarry, Middle Rock Quarry, Gen. Emillio Aguinaldo, Upper Quirino-Magsaysay and Palma-Urbano; District 8 composed of Pinget, East Quirino Hill, Middle Quirino Hill, Lower Quirino Hill, West Quirino Hill, Camdas Subdivision, Happy Homes-Old Lucban and Dizon-Manzanillo Subdivision; and District 15 composed of Asin road, Lourdes Subdivision Extension, Lourdes Proper, Lower Lourdes Subdivision, Dominican-Mirador, San Luis Village and San Roque Village.
Republic Act No 10742, or the SK Reform Act of 2015, establishes reforms in the SK creating enabling mechanisms for meaningful youth participation in nation-building, and for other purposes.
Further, the Philippine Youth Development Plan 2017-2022 provides the framework for unified action among the youth and youth-serving groups, agencies and institutions to promote holistic youth participation in the society providing for the duties and responsibilities of the SK officials primarily towards the exercise of youth involvement in 9 centers of youth participation, namely: economic empowerment, health, education, social inclusion and equity, peace building and security, governance, active citizenship, environment and global mobility.
Despite the great number of tasks devolved to the SK in terms of youth welfare and sports development, the resolution stated it is admirable for the local government to see the passion, commitment and dedication of SK officials in their duties in the barangay and the city as a whole.
The resolution noted that the SK has been reportedly improving themselves to function better in their task as young leaders of the land to help build due recognition and gratitude to their hardworking SK officials, thus, the aforesaid recognition.
