Even if it was the “fake” alternate reality, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) provided the much needed real sports action relief for hungry sports fans early this week and surprised them with the return to action of some of the all-time favorites.
Among the scenes from Wretlemania 36 are Wrestlemania legend Undertaker hiking his already impressive record in the event, Brock Lesnar absorbing a loss that cost him his WWE title, John Cena making a return but failing to get the win, and Edge stamping his return with his first major event appearance since retiring in 2011.
Brock Lesnar losses belt despite dishing three F-5s
This served as the main event of the second day in this two-day event.
McIntyre got the initial upperhand by connecting a Claymore Kick that saw Lesnar kicking out to beat the three count.
Lesnar countered with suplexes and an F-5 for the pinfall attempt but McIntyre easily kicked out.
Lesnar then connected two more F-5’s and nearly got the win each time as McIntyre barely beats the count at two.
Lesnar attempted fourth F-5 but McIntyre reversed it with three Claymore Kicks connections to get the pinfall and the WWE Championship.
Undertaker records 25th win in Wrestlemania
This was the main event of the first day.
The Undertaker faced AJ Styles in a Boneyard match, a Buried Alive match at a cemetery.
A hearse arrived while the Undertaker’s music played in the background, but trow off the fans when Styles emerged from the casket.
This was followed by the arrival of the Undertaker riding a motorcycle ala Ghost Rider (reminiscent of his “American Bad Ass” gimmick with Metallica’s “Now That We’re Dead” in the background).
“Taker had to ward off assists from Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, and a group of druids to Styles as the match progressed .
Styles eventually was able to drop Undertaker into a grave with a spade. As Styles was preparing to drop dirt on Undertaker for the win by burial, The Dead Man mysteriously appeared behind him and started the counterattack.
The fight proceeded all over the graveyard until it reaches a roof of a warehouse.
Undertaker then fought the trio of Style, Gallows and Anderson on the rooftop, sending Gallows back to the gorund, taking out Anderson by a Tombstone Piledriver on Anderson, and finishing Styles by a throw off the rooftop.
Undertaker proceeded to drop Styles into the grave, started a tractor, and dumped all the dirt in the grave for his 25th win in the event.
Overall, Undertaker is 25-2 in Wrestlemania, losing for the first time to Lesnar in 2014 and to Roman Reigns in 2017.
His victories include three over Triple H, including back-to back, another consecutive victories against Shawn Michaels, two against Kane, and one each against co-performers Edge and Cena.
John Cena losses in return
This match emanated from a challenge made by “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt on a February 28, 2020 episode of SmackDown.
Cena appeared on the show where he seemingly announced his retirement only to be interrupted by Wyatt who issued a challenge which Cena accepted.
Cena made his way into the Performance Center ring but was then transported to the fun house.
This Firefly Fun House match continued with several transports until Cena and Wyatt suddenly appeared in a ring where Cena reversed out of an attempted Sister Abigail by Wyatt.
It ended after a few more transports when Wyatt’s normal self snuck up behind Cena and finished him with a Sister Abigail and the Mandible Claw for the pin.
Edge’s return solidified
Edge faced Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match.
Edge was first in the receiving end as Orton connects two RKO, while initially disguised as a cameraman.
Action spilled over to the Performance Centres’ gym area and played for over 36 and a half minutes, the longest during the entire event.
In the end, Edge finally took out Orton on a sleeper hold. The referee started counting out Orton, who passed out on a chair
Edge stopped the count to deliver a Conchairto with another chair for the exclamation point.
The ref continued the count until it reaches 10.
