MANKAYAN, Benguet– It’s all systems go for the simple but meaningful celebration of the town’s 108th founding anniversary with the limited activities that had been lined up by organizers for the 2-day event.
With the theme ‘Soaring High Mankayan,’ Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap and Gov. Melchor D. Diclas will be guests of honor and speakers during the founding anniversary program to be held in the main plaza on Thursday, March 11, 2021.
In the afternoon of March 11, 2021, the much-awaited paragliding exhibition will be launched as one of the town’s emerging tourist attraction with paragliding experts from the Philippine Paragliding Association–Northern Luzon based in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya on hand to spearhead the aforesaid event.
On March 12, 2021, Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong disclosed there will be an Eco Walk for a Cause from the Lepanto Golf Clubhouse to the Mount Dagadag or the town’s Prayer Mountain as an added venue for participants to gradually and safely go back to their daily routine but with strict adherence to the prevailing basic health and safety protocols.
The activity will be followed by a women’s congress as part of the local government’s way of celebrating women’s month where more than 800 women from the different barangays will converge to discuss pertinent issues and concerns besetting the sector and formulate appropriate recommendations for concerned government agencies and the municipal government to adopt to address their prevailing problems.
Mayor Ayong reported that the designated organizers of the activities lined up for the celebration assigned safety officers who will take charge of ensuring the compliance of the participants to health and safety protocols as part of the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the deadly virus in the municipality.
According to him, the COVID-19 situation in the municipality is under control thus efforts are now being undertaken to properly inform and educate the residents on the importance of vaccination for them to protected from being infected with the virus.
Ayong explained it is important for the residents to be properly informed on the benefits of being vaccinated so that when the vaccines from the national government will arrive, people will be enticed to be vaccinated and prevent wastage of the vaccines.
By May, the municipality will also be celebrating its Pine Tree Festival which was institutionalized through a municipal ordinance for residents to lead in the municipal government’s efforts in preserving and protecting the environment. By HENT
