BANGUED , Abra – Various sectors in the province now want a new face in politics who could help in changing the image of Abra from the perception of the people from other parts of the country and the global village as wells.
Numerous groups of millennial, religious groups, professional organizations, senior citizens and other marginalized sectors in the province endorsed the candidacy of Derdrei Roce “Deydey” Luna-Ifurung for the province’s representative to the House of Representative because they were able to find her the characteristics and ability to bring the province to greater heights for the benefit of the present and future generations.
The different sectors are pinning their hopes to the 41-year old businesswoman turned public servant in working out the realization of lasting peace in the province which will be the eventual catalyst of growth and development that will result to the improved economic condition of the people.
With the controversies confronting the present officials of the province, leaders of the various sectors claimed that it is high time that new leaders be put in place to allow the present officials to face the numerous issues confronting their leadership so as not to compromise the interest of the people of Abra, especially in their quest for the realization of lasting peace and the desired economic growth to help in improving the living condition of the people provincewide.
According to them, Ifurung is the most qualified candidate for the province’s lawmaker because she can easily get along with the different sectors and that she understands the plight of the people who have raring for the achievement of real change for the better in the province considering that the present leaders who had been promising better situation in Abra did not actually fulfill their political promise.
Earlier, the Commission on elections (Comelec) en banc recommended the filing of election offense charges against incumbent Abra Rep. Joseph Sto. Nino Bernos and two police officers for their involvement in an alleged election-related offense during the May 2016 national and local elections while different sectors of the province petitioned the justice department to file murder charges against the embattled Abra lawmaker pursuant to a resolution that was promulgated over two years ago which was not filed by the concerned provincial prosecutor that allowed Bernos to remain free.
The leaders of the different sectors branded that the mere denial of the lawmaker on the various charges that are now being revived against him is not a decent excuse that would clear his name from the controversies since it will only be the courts that will declare whether or not he is guilty of the offenses being charged against him because there are alleged strong pieces of evidence that would warrant his prosecution.
Further, they argued that the province does not need officials who have been charged or are about to be charged with different offenses because their attention will be divided in serving their constituents and facing the charges against them, thus, Ifuring deserves to be the fitting candidate for the province’s congressional post considering her dedication and passion to be a public servant for the people of bra.
